Port of Rotterdam

If you live in Europe, chances are your orange juice, petroleum, coal, cat litter, sports shoes, Taiwanese-made computer etc., etc. …. came through the Port of Rotterdam. In 2011, the port handled 434.6 million tons of cargo making it the fifth largest port in the world after Shanghai, Ningbo, Singapore and Tianjin, and ahead of Guangzhou, Qingdao, Dalian, Tangshan, Qinhuangdao. Anyone spotting a pattern yet? There are another four Chinese ports on the global top 20 list!

Today I wanted to get out and enjoy the sun without traveling too far, so in the afternoon I joined a lot of other people and hopped on one of the harbour cruises. I brought my camera and made sure the battery was fully charged because the port is very photogenic. Bonus points for anyone spotting the two references to Finland!
